The Purchasing Managers Index is a diffusion index summarizing economic activity in the manufacturing sector in the US. The index is based on a survey of manufacturing supply executives conducted by the Institute of Supply Management. As of February 2021, the Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) in most major economies had recovered from the decline seen in early 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Use the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for accurate and timely insight into the health of the global economy. Purchasing Managers’ Index™ (PMI™) data are compiled by IHS Markit for more than 40 economies worldwide. The monthly data are derived from surveys of senior executives at private sector companies and are available only via subscription.
